Get the most out of your new turf from Valley Contractors, by following these 3 simple tips.

Watering

Your new turf is thirsty work, so let’s keep it well-watered:

For the first two weeks, give your new turf a good soaking every day.
After that, ease off to 2-3 times a week, but make sure the water reaches deep into the top soil.
Not sure if it needs watering? Do the footprint test! If your footprints don’t spring back up, it’s time to get the hose out.

Mowing

Don’t rush to mow your new grassed area – it needs time to settle in:

Wait about 2-3 weeks before the first mow. Your grass should be about 5-6 cm tall.
Set your mower blades high for the first few cuts. We’re aiming for about 4 cm – nobody likes a close shave!
Once established, mow regularly but never cut off more than a third of the grass height.

Feeding

A well-fed lawn is a happy lawn:

Give your new turf its first feed about 6 weeks after laying. It’ll be ready for a good meal by then!
For established lawns, feed in spring and autumn. These are the prime growing seasons, so make the most of them!
Use a balanced fertiliser in spring and a phosphate-rich one in autumn. It’s like a nutritious breakfast and a hearty dinner for your grass!
